There can be no better feeling other than staying at a home stay. One might wonder why should we book a home stay when we have a choice of luxurious hotels & resorts. Trust me you might want to reconsider your choices.
My experience in Goa left me with such a great feeling that I really wanna go back and live it all over again. We 6 friends stayed at a homestay at Divar Island. There is something about this place and the stay which can’t be explained in words unless one visits it and gets the experience. With Nativefolks, one can expect a very warm welcome from the homestay hosts. Our hosts Mr & Mrs Menezes were so kind and down to earth, and so super cool even in their 50s. With such politeness and smiles, they welcomed us, brought us things to eat, and shared their story about Goa and living there. This not only speaks of the warm heart with which the localities welcomes you but also gives a glimpse of their rich culture. I feel it is important to get to know the hosts’ culture after all India is all abt it.
The homestay which we stayed in was undoubtedly beautiful and spacious. It had everything- from huge rooms to comfort, from kitchen to the open balcony, from garden to a bore well in the veranda and from calmness to undisturbed nature. We would take a walk to the nearby bakery to indulge in some Goan sweets and buy milk to make some tea in our own way.The unexpected rain which we enjoyed from the huge balcony with a cup of hot tea, where the neighborhood stood quite and the greenery which was self-composed made us admire the beauty of simplicity.
Also almost everything is close by from Divar island. The major city is just 30 minutes away. The way to it is like a picture, painted of Portuguese style houses coloured in bright green, blue, yellow and red which screams their style of living. Tall grasses alongside the straight road leading to the ferry which connects to Panjim. This is like a classic edition of Goa which is offered by Divar Island. Nativefolks has a couple of homestays at such offbeat locations in Goa and any number of people can get accommodated easily.
We also took our bikes around Goa exploring the beaches, forts & churches. 2 days fell short to explore everything however, we managed to go boating at Dona Paula, headed towards Anjuna beach & made it on time for the sunset. Later we headed to Baga beach for some candle light dinner & karoke at the shacks. The next day, we lazed in Miramar for some time and ended our Sat night with a bang at LPK.
It took a lot of time for each one of us to get over these memories and go back to our usual lives. Frankly, I would like to give a lot of credit to the comfortable stay & the atmosphere we had. This is coz we made breakfast together in the kitchen, the hilarious stories told over the dining table, playing around the house like some 5 year old kid, clicking pictures, sharing a good laugh sitting in the balcony, enjoying the calmness after the city buzz not only brought us together but made our entire trip pleasant.
This is the fun of togetherness just under one roof where happiness doubles, memories multiply and then you feel so addicted that you wish to keep coming back. Nothing about it is ersatz, it’s pure, genuine, self-made. Live in these homestays for once and experience the beauty of serenity.
