The remote and rustic village of Payong is a prime attraction in the context of rural tourism in Sikkim. This village is a treat to the eyes of visitors who appreciate the beauty and culture of the countryside. Right from the vast stretches of luxuriant paddy fields to the high mountain peaks, Sikkim is a state filled with wonder. It feels like a dream when you sit and gaze at the star-studded sky. Like a speckle of gold allured by nature. The natives of the village live a modest life in close contact with the natural environment. Every house is located at a considerable distance from the other, with forests, orchards and scenic terraced farms surrounding it.

  • A visit to the giant statue of Lord Buddha that was installed at Rabong in the year 2006 to mark the 2550th birth anniversary of Lord Buddha.
  • Stopover at the larger than life statue of Lord Shiva at Namchi which is a 2 hour drive from Patuk. Namchi is also famous for its magnificent views of Kanchenjunga mountain range
  • A day’s trip to explore Ravangla is a must. It is famous for its Buddha park, spectacular views of the Himalayas, monasteries and carpet shops
  • Village walks and day hikes in the neighbouring hills
  • You could be witness to a Shamanic healing ritual unique to this part of the country. This depends on the group size.
  • Samdruptse which means 'wish fulfilling hill' in the local Bhutia language is another location you need to include in your itinerary. There is a statue of Guru Padamasambhava, a saint who blessed Sikkim more than 1200 years ago. He is also fondly known as Guru Rimpoche. At 135 feet it is the highest statue of Guru Padamasambhava in the world and its foundation stone was laid by His Holiness the Dalai Lama
  • You could plan a visit to the Lingi Buddhist Monastery and the Mahadev Caves.
  • Visit nearby villages to witness the local rituals.

By Air: The closest airport to our program location is located in Bagdogra, Siliguri, West Bengal (IXB). There are flights almost every day to this airport from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore

By Train: Nearest railway stations to Sikkim are Jalpaiguri (187 km) and Siliguri (146 km), that are well-connected to major cities like Kolkata, Guwahati, Delhi and Mumbai. Pick up will be arranged from the airport/railway station to the homestay
